joint rate
The freight rate for a through shipment by connecting carriers, often called a through rate. 13 Am J2d Car § 206. Such charge is so apportioned to the separate carriers that each shall receive a just and reasonable part of the joint charge. Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern Railroad Co. v Dey, 82 Iowa 312, 48 NW 98. A through rate is not necessarily a joint rate. It may be an aggregation of separate rates fixed independently by the carriers involved in the through transportation.
