datio in adoptionem
(Roman law.) Given in adoption. Adoption is either arrogatio, when a man in his own right (homo sui juris) is adopted or datio in adoptionem, when a filius familias of him who has such person in his power is given to another for adoption. See Mackeldey's Roman Law § 592.
