compensatory fine
A fine which the court may impose in a civil contempt action as a remedial punishment, payable to an aggrieved litigant as compensation for the special damages which he may have sustained by reason of the contumacious conduct of the offender. Parker v United Stales (CA1 Mass) 126 F2d 370.
