Meetings of an educational and entertaining character, from a sophisticated viewpoint, conducted by a literary and scientific circle or assembly at Chautauqua Lake in the southwestern part of New York State; meetings conducted elsewhere in the United States in imitation of the meetings at Chautauqua Lake.
