charter governments

charter governments
English colonial governments in the nature of civil corporations, having power to make by-laws for their own internal regulation, not contrary to the laws of England and with such rights and authority as are specially granted to them by their charters of incorporation. Their form of government was generally borrowed from that of England. See 1 Bl Comm 108.
