A distribution to the stockholders of a corporation, its the reward of the corporate enterprise, of the profits or surplus assets of the corporation, usually, but not necessarily in cash; it may be in other property, in which event, the terminology is appropriate nevertheless to indicate it distinction from a stock dividend. 19 Am J2d Corp § 801).
