- capias utlagatum
- A writ which issued in a civil action for the arrest of a defendant who had absconded and had been outlawed and under which he could be committed until the outlawry was reversed. The purpose of the process being to secure the appearance of the defendant, such a reversal was usually secured as a mere formality. See 3 Bl Comm 284.
