The beginning of a voyage by a vessel. See 48 Am J1st Ship § 425; the commencement of work upon a building or other structure; the act of taking a shovelful of dirt from the ground, symbolizing the commencement of work upon a building, in the construction of which, the public is interested, such as a church, a postoffice, a memorial building, a courthouse, etc.
