ulterior purpose

ulterior purpose
An undisclosed purpose; a purpose not revealed by what is expressed or implied. The rule that a stockholder will not be permitted to inspect corporate books for an "ulterior purpose" seems to be merely another mode of stating that the inspection must be for purposes germane to the stockholder's status as such.
