third-party action

third-party action
A concept and the application thereof in modern practice under statute or rule of practice whereby the defendant in an action brings into the action a third person under allegation in an appropriate pleading that the third person is liable over to the defendant in reference to the cause of action asserted by the plaintiff, so that there may be determined in the one action the issues as between the plaintiff and the defendant and the issues as between the defendant and the person thus brought into the action by him.
