attorney of record

attorney of record
The attorney for a party to an action who has appeared for him by a formal appearance, by pleading or making a motion for him, or by an oral statement of appearance in open court, and is in charge of the party's business and interests in the action. It is a common practice to refer to associate attorneys as "of counsel," to distinguish them from attorneys of record in a cause.
