statutes real
Terminology of the continental or civil law. The Spanish and French laws touching community property, and those of California and Texas and other states derived from them, are held to be, in the vocabulary of the civilians, statutes real and not statutes personal; that is to say, they apply to things within a country's jurisdiction rather than to persons wherever they may be or go. Commissioner v Skaggs (CA 5 Tex) 122 F2d 721.
