prize money
A sum of money offered by way of a reward to the winner of a contest or as the stake in a lottery. The purse or stake in a prize fight. The proceeds of the sale of a vessel or goods taken as prize of war. Under the federal prize statutes the net proceeds of all property condemned as prize are to be decreed to the United States and be ordered by the court to be paid into the Treasury of the United States. 56 Am J1st War § 201.
