prayer

prayer
A supplication addressed to God. That part of a pleading which designates and asks for the relief sought by the party. The prayer is no part of a plaintiff's cause of action and it cannot aid in curing a defective complaint, but it may serve to show what kind of a case the plaintiff supposes he has made and the kind of relief to which he conceives himself to be entitled, and may indicate the object which he seeks to accomplish. See 41 Am J1st PI §§ 109 et seq. An appropriate prayer should be incorporated in a bill or petition for equitable relief. 27 Am J2d Eq. § 182.
