person in loco parentis
One who has taken a position in reference to a child of that of a lawful father, assuming the office of a father and the obligation of supporting the child, assuming a parental character and discharging parental duties, although not the parent. Brinkerhoff v Merselis' Executors, 24 NJL 680, 683. One who takes a child into his home and treats it as a member of his own family, educating and supporting it as if it were his own child. 39 Am J1st P & C § 61.
