opiate

opiate
A narcotic drug containing opium or a derivative of opium. Any substance which tends to sooth. A drug administered to alleviate pain and quiet the sensibilities of the patient. Muller v St. Louis Hospital Asso. 5 Mo App 390, 393. Opinion is twofold, that is to say, common opinion springing from among serious and discreet persons, and which has the appearance of truth; and opinion arising among light-minded and ordinary men without the semblance of truth.
