modus de non decimando
A manner or custom of not paying tithes. Where particular persons or lands had become discharged or exempted by immemorial usage or custom from the payment of tithes they thus acquired a prescriptive immunity from such payment, which was called a "modus de non decimando." See 2 Bl Comm 29.
