miscreant

miscreant
An evil person. An unbeliever; a person who entertained doctrines subversive of moral obligation or the Christian religion. A statute under William the Third provided that if any person with an understanding of Christianity wrote or taught or made speeches denying its truth he thereby rendered himself incapable of holding any office of trust; that for a second offense he should be unable to sue, act as guardian, executor, legatee or purchaser of land and suffer three years' imprisonment without bail. See 4 Bl Comm 44.
