marriage brokerage

marriage brokerage
The business of a "marriage broker," who undertakes for compensation to procure spouses for those who seek them. At one time the courts differed as to whether such contracts could be set aside without fraud, deceit, coercion, or a total failure of consideration, but since the House of Lords declared them to be against public policy this view has been quite gener- ally followed in the United States as well as in England. 35 Am J1st Mar § 283.
