The principle that relative and qualifying words, phrases, or clauses are to be applied to the words, phrases, or clauses immediately precedent, and not extended to other words, phrases or clauses more remote. Montgomery Light & Traction Co. v Avant, 202 Ala 404, 80 So 497, 3 ALR 384.
