justices in eyre

justices in eyre
Justices on circuit, judges who were regularly established under Henry the Second in 1176, with a delegated power from the king's great court, or aula regia, being regarded as members of it and who afterwards made their circuit around the kingdom once in seven years to try causes. Later, by Magna Charta, they were directed to be sent into every county once a year, to take recognitions or assizes. See 3 Bl Comm 57.
