Words, letters, or signs marked or engraved upon stone, metal, or other enduring substance so that they will stand in some degree of permanancy, at least. Another term for the registration or recording of a deed, mortgage, or other instrument entitled to be inscribed or recorded in the public records. Bondurant v Watson (US) 13 Otto 281, 26 L Ed 447.
