house confinement clause

A clause of a health and accident policy, generally understood to be intended to show the extent of disability rather than to impose a strict condition of absolute confinement to a house. A clause which calls for substantial confinement by reason of illness or accident, not confinement so close as to exclude a period of disability during which the insured went out for exercise or visits to his physician. 29A Am J Rev ed Ins § 1530. A clause which is satisfied by confinement in a hospital or sanitarium, as well as at home. Anno: 29 ALR2d 1427.
