foreign investment company
A foreign corporation which is either (a) registered as a management company, or a unit investment trust under the 1940 Investment Company Act, or (b) engaged in the investment business at a time when a majority interest is held by United States investors-United States citizens or residents, domestic partnerships or corporations, and "domestic" (nonforeign) trusts. IRC § 1246(b); IRC § 7701(a)(30).
