An officer who acts for the sheriff, in some jurisdictions his powers being limited to the performance of ministerial acts, but in other jurisdictions, being given authority equivalent to that of the sheriff, even authority for the execution of conveyances of lands sold under execution. 47 Am J1st Sher § 154.
