An instrument which is likely to or which will cause or produce death or great bodily harm when used in the manner contemplated by its design and construction. Barboursville ex rel. Whether an unloaded firearm is to be considered a deadly weapon depends ordinarily upon whether the manner in which the instrument is used or attempted to be used, whether as a firearm or a bludgeon. 56 Am J1st Weap § 4.
