A collection of individuals united in one body under a special denomination, and vested by the policy of the law with the capacity of acting in several respects as an individual; a legal institution devised to confer upon the individuals of which it is composed powers, privileges, and immunities which they would not otherwise possess, the most important of which are continuous legal identity, and perpetual or indefinite succession under the corporate name, notwithstanding successive changes by death or otherwise in the corporation or members of the corporation. 18 Am J2d Corp § 1.
