consistory court
Also called the bishop's court, -a court of every diocesan bishop which was held in their several cathedrals, for the trial of all ecclesiastical causes arising within their respective dioceses. The bishop's chancellor, or his commissary was the judge and from the sentence of this court an appeal lay to the archbishop of the province. 3 Bl Comm 64.
