Chancery. The high court of chancery, says Blackstone, has its name from the judge, the lord chancellor or cancellarious who presides there and who was so termed from cancelling the king's letters patent when granted contrary to law, which is the highest point of his jurisdiction. See 3 Bl Comm 46.
