tutor
A guardian. A person who under the Roman law occupied practically the same position with reference to his minor charge as a guardian of the person of an infant occupies toward his ward, under our laws. See 1 Bl Comm 460. A teacher engaged privately. A teacher instructing one pupil at a time. See protutor.
