A violent storm distinguished by the vehemence of the wind. A windstorm featured by cyclonic or whirling winds of tumultuous force. 29A Am J Rev ed Ins § 1329. A violent windstorm, usually accompanied by a funnel-shaped cloud; an act of God. 1 Am J2d Act of God § 5. Not to be confused with the widely extended rotary storm known as a cyclone. Queen Ins. Co. v Hudnut Co. 8 Ind App 22, 26, 35 NE 397. Not to be confused with a hurricane. It appears that for the purposes of insurance, the terms "hurricane," "tornado," and "windstorm" are often treated as synonymous. See windstorm insurance.
