substituted

substituted
One person or one thing acting, serving, or occupying the place of another. The word describes a replacement of one thing by another and, in most of its ordinary uses, implies the removal or elimination of the thing replaced. But this definition is not reliable when one is dealing with legal relations as when concrete objects are in mind. For example, we have the common case of a substituted trustee, in which the original trustee ceases to act and have the powers of a trustee, but he continues to be liable as a trustee for his acts while in office. Fidelity-Philadelphia Trust Co. v Hale & Kilburn Corporation (DC Pa) 24 F Supp 3.
