The performance of the formal act or ceremony by which a man and woman contract marriage and assume the status of husband and wife. 35 Am J1st Mar § 25. As a requirement of the law, any celebration or ceremony which gives utterance to and public evidence of the contract of marriage. Howard v Kelly, 111 Miss 285, 71 So 391.
