single publication rule
The principle that an injury occurs and a cause of action arises from a single publication of a defamatory article. 16 Am 12d Confl L § 72. Under the single publication rule, any single integrated publication, such as one edition of a newspaper or magazine, or one broadcast, is treated as a unit, giving rise to only one cause of action of defamation, invasion of privacy, or similar tort.
