service charge
A percentage added to the bill for meal or drinks in hotel or restaurant. Service charges collected by proprietors of hotels and restaurants and distributed among their waiters and other employees in accordance with a prearranged plan, or at the discretion of the employers, are wages subject to unemployment tax acts to the extent that an employer is required to pay unemployment taxes or contribute to such payment.
