remedial statute
A statute to be construed liberally as one intended to reform or extend existing rights or to correct defects and eliminate mischief in a pre-existing statute. 50 Am J1st Stat §§ 14, 15. A statute pertaining to matters of practice and procedure rather than matters of substantive law. 50 Am J1st Stat § 15. See prerogative remedial legislation.
