quasi contract
An obligation imposed by law, on grounds of justice and equity, usually to prevent unjust enrichment. A fiction of the law, adopted to achieve justice and enforce legal duties by means of an action ex contractu where no true contract exists. 58 Am J1st Wk & L § 2.
