Put by gage and safe pledges. A writ which was issued after the return of the original writ and the nonappearance of the defendant, ordering the sheriff to attach the defendant by taking gage, that is, certain of his goods, to be forfeited if he did not appear, or by making him find safe pledges or sureties to be amerced in the event of his nonappearance.
