passing vehicle

passing vehicle
To go by a vehicle. As used in a statute requiring motor vehicles to come to a stop before "passing" any school bus which has stopped for the purpose of taking on or discharging school children, the term means to go by, regardless of whether the school bus and the motor vehicle are traveling in the same direction or in the opposite direction at the time when the school bus comes to a stop. Thus a statute contemplates the stopping of motor vehicles approaching from an opposite direction as well as those traveling in the same direction. Fisher v J. H. Sheridan Co. 182 SC 316, 189 SE 356, 108 ALR 981. See overtaking and passing.
