middle name

middle name
The second Christian name of a person, intervening between the first Christian name and the surname; occasionally the name by which a person is called or which he uses. An early rule, no longer closely adhered to, prevailed in some jurisdictions to the effect that both first and middle names were essential to a proper designation of a person. 38 Am J1st Name § 6.
