island

island
A body of land surrounded by water. 56 Am J1st Wat § 504. To constitute an island in a river, the formation or body must be of a permanent character, not merely surrounded by water when the river is high, but permanently surrounded by a channel of the river, and not a sand bar subject to overflow by the rise of the river and connected with the main land when the river is low, but it is not necessary that the formation on the bed of the river and extending above its surface be suitable for agricultural purposes in order to constitute it an island. Howler v Wood, 73 Kan 511, 85 P 763.
