industrial relations

industrial relations
The relations between the employing industry and the workers, often referred to today as capital and labor. As the words are used in the title of an act relating to an administrative body for the regulation of industrial relations, the word industrial means relating to industry, and industry embraces those departments devoted to public service. The word relations has the meaning of "affairs." Fifty years ago the words would have conveyed little or no information, but in the light of common knowledge of the science of government, and particularly the regulation of industry by administrative tribunals as they now exist, anyone whose interests might be affected by the legislation would be directed to details by the title. State ex rel. Hopkins v Howat, 109 Kan 376, 198 P 686, 25 ALR 1210, 1228.
