The use of a highway for a purpose other than travel or transportation, which is conducive to public convenience or tends to make the highway of greater utility, or for the purpose of travel or transportation by a special instrumentality or mode of conveyance not inconsistent or incompatible with the primary purpose of a highway or its use in the customary manner. 25 Am J1st High § 168. A familiar term in zoning laws; a use of premises dependent on or pertaining to the principal or main use. Needham v Winslow Nurseries, Inc. 330 Mass 95, 111 NE2d 453, 40 ALR2d 1450.
