A maxim applicable in criminal cases. 21 Am J2d Crim L § 94. A maxim applicable in both civil and criminal cases. 29 Am J2d Ev § 222. A maxim of equity. 27 Am J2d Equity § 37. "Law" for the purposes of the maxim is general law, the ordinary law of the country. The maxim has no application to a private law in support of a private right.
