general issue
A common law pleading, abolished as such in most states using a reformed system of pleading, consisting of a denial in short form of all that is material in the complaint or declaration. Somewhat analogous to the general denial of modern code and rules procedure. 41 Am J1st Pl § 140. See general denial.
