Marks left by a person's fingers on objects, the most singular characteristic of which is the dissimilarity between the fingerprints of any two persons, which has rendered fingerprints most desirable evidence for purposes of identification. Impressions of the fingers taken and preserved on cards so as to be readily available for purposes of identification of the person as such may ultimately be required. The fact that every fingertip has a series of convolutions in the skin surface, no two of which are alike, and which students of the subject can classify and describe so as to facilitate search, has made identification of a criminal almost certain whenever a clear impression of bloody or dirty fingers has been left on the scene of the crime.
