A license to pursue a calling or occupation which in effect creates a monopoly in the licensee. 33 Am J1st Lic § 23. A grant by the proprietor of a patent to another person of the right to make, use, or sell the patented article, including the condition that the grantor will grant no further license of the kind in respect of such article to any other person. 40 Am J1st Pat § 146. The mere grant by a state of an "exclusive ferry lease" for a specified distance along a river does not prevent the state from erecting a bridge within the prescribed limits.
