Edward VIII
Edward the Eighth, king of England from Jan. 20, 1936, to Dec. 11 of the same year, when he abdicated, giving up the throne, as he said, because, as king, he could not marry "the woman I love," the divorced Mrs. Wallis Warfield of Baltimore, Maryland, better known in the press of the United States as Mrs. Simpson.
