Congressional Survey

Congressional Survey
The method of survey first established by Congress for the lands in the Northwest Territory, since extended to public lands in the western and many other states of the Union, whereby the lands are surveyed and platted into square or rectangular tracts, known as townships, sections, and fractional parts of sections. 42 Am J1st Pub L § 40.
