collector of customs
An officer of the United States for the collection of customs duties and the performance of such other duties as the Secretary of the Treasury may prescribe. 5 USC § 281; 21 Am J2d Cust D § 64. For some purposes, the term "collector" means collector of customs and includes assistant collector of customs, deputy collector of customs, and any person authorized by law or by regulations of the Secretary of the Treasury to perform the duties of a collector of customs. 19 USC § 1401(h).
